A new paradigm for the art world would offer challenges and discomfort. But above all, it can bring us closer to the truth

I worked three years with the team of ArtFacts.Net building the Artist Ranking ©, there was a quite special time and a project that defined the direction of my career as an artist. But in very summarized words what the Artfacts Artist Ranking© measure is witch artists are mostly demanded by the most important art institutions in the art world. And in just one sentence what it measures is Fame.

In my question: if how to expand the number of people who directly influence what we know as ART? I found in the Artist Ranking another question and the solution: how to create an indicator that measures the importance of the artists and their prices based on „something“ that is NOT Fame. After months of deep meditation, I reached the answer in a quote said by Albert Einstein: “Problems cannot be solved with the same mindset that created them.” Then I saw it clearly, what is need it to change is the current paradigm, proposing a new one!

In my last article „How changing our reference model would change the face of the art world?“ I talk about the current paradigm that rules the art world and how this paradigm makes the art world so easy to manipulate and be contaminated by other variables like corruption, speculation, or nepotism. This new paradigm has been always in front of our noses but we have never seen it, because it is so encrusted in the social unconscious, because until now it is covered by false beliefs, and for the Elite, who plays the game of manipulation, it is very convenient that things remain as it is now.

So, the newly proposed paradigm is to define the importance of the artists and the prices of the artworks, based on the quality of the work of the artist, taken from the knowledge and taste of representative groups of the art world. This is the key sentence that could change the face of the art world and I will explain it in detail later. But now, what immediately pop-ups is the question: how to measure the quality based on knowledge and taste? You could think that this is ridiculous.

But when we stop and think about the fact (that 99% of the population assume is true) that an artist or an artwork that hangs on the walls of an „important“ museum or selected by an „important “ curator or collected by an „important“ art collector is a „good“ or „high quality“ artwork. This is also insane, actually, we don‘t know how the decision-making process was executed to select that artist. There are many hidden variables, events, situations, and factors that could have brought that work to the privileged place where it is. Many in relation to the art and many that have nothing to do with art and with the art world, like corruption, manipulation. speculation, among others.

So thinking that people of the art world, with experience and knowledge in the art world, could give us a more precise idea of the quality of the work of the artist should not sound crazy, or? In the next article, I will describe the Pure Taste Indicator and how this indicator will give us a new perspective on the art world. You can send me your comments, suggestions, and ideas.
